Swing Sets

When performing a survey at a shipper’s residence, remember to ask about the swing set out back…here are questions to ask about possible origin and destination services, and what AE Worldwide does to insure a smooth and trouble-free disassembly and reassembly.

Origin
There are several factors which can impact performance in the disassembly of a swing set.

  • When possible, the surveyor should determine the make and model of the set. With the tremendous variables, time & cost of service can differ significantly
  • Examine the condition of hardware, looking for excessive rust or deterioration
  • Look over the framework for signs of split or rotted boards and make notations
  • Check out the components or accessories for condition and note accordingly
  • Determine if any pieces have been nailed or screwed (versus nuts & bolts)
  • Is any hardware missing? AE can secure replacement parts
  • How is the unit secured in the ground? (wooden or metal stakes, other)
  • Is the set cemented into the ground?

Here is what AE does during the disassembly process:

  • Take photos to verify condition and facilitate assembly
  • Lubricate all bolts & hardware for easier removal and reconnection
  • Label/letter components
  • Wrap, Pack and Label hardware
  • Communicate with driver, when available, to break down components to agreeable sizes
  • Disassemble all components to best assist the driver with loading and transportation

Destination
Be sure that the surveyor asks about the location & conditions of destination assembly which could impact a safe process:

  • Is the planned location reasonably level?
  • Sufficient space around the set to allow room for children’s movement?
  • Is the location far enough from structures, trees, etc. to allow for safe use of swings, slides, and other accessories?
  • Will the ground be cleared of snow and thawed to allow for a level and secure installation?
  • Is the location far enough away from street or driveway traffic?

Prior to the commencement of the assembly process, the AE Worldwide technician will review the location with the shipper to be certain that the selected site meets safety considerations and is placed in an agreeable position. If snow or frozen ground exists, we strongly suggest postponement of the assembly to assure a safe and enjoyable experience for years to come.

Remember these helpful hints the next time a swing set requires service. Attention to this type of detail helps differentiate your staff from competitors, and assures your shipper’s family a safe and enjoyable outdoor experience.
