Front Load Washers
Many of you have already dealt with the need to secure the drum on front load washers which have hit the market over the past few years. Do you know why this service is required and what is done?
Front load washers, unlike top loaders, do not have an agitator, and the drum is almost a "free floating" portion of the washer. Attempting to transport these units without securing the drum can result in costly damage to the unit. So how does AE Worldwide handle this service?
In addition to disconnecting and capping the water lines, we vacuum out any residual water, secure the cord and wrap the control panel. We then install a "kit" to secure the drum. There are 2 options for kits to utilize.
Option # 1: Install drum locking bolts into the back of the unit. These bolts are usually unique in size for the specific make and model of the unit. Unfortunately, there is no standardization among manufacturers for the size of these bolts (and sometimes additional brackets for the bottom of the drum are required).
Option # 2: Instead of utilizing the bolts and brackets, a Litkit is installed. The outer cabinet of the washer is removed, and 2 Litkit bags are placed in the appropriate locations. Litkits are durable "airbag" like devices which are installed and inflated. These airbags thoroughly secure the drum for safe handling and transport. One of the many benefits of the Litkit is that one size fits all units. This eliminates the need to stock an array various bolt kits, and allows us to react more quickly to last minute orders for this service. |
