Customized Crating and Uncrating

AE Worldwide specializes in the design and construction of wooden crates that are necessary to properly protect items which, because of their nature, are susceptible to incurring damage during loading and transportation. These crates are especially valuable to minimize damage that can occur when items are placed into storage, which is usually accompanied by additional handling and transportation. Our crating services are also frequently requested on international shipments where the varied modes of transportation require more secure packaging than traditional cardboard cartons can provide.

AE builds our crates on-site to insure a custom fit. Before placing the item in a crate, we wrap or protect the contents as necessary, as an additional means of helping to prevent damage. As with all items we service, condition report notations are made at both origin and destination. Items that are frequently crated include:

  • Marble, Granite, Glass Tops
  • Paintings and Artwork
  • Chandeliers, Antique Light Fixtures
  • Grandfather Clocks
  • Pool Table Slates
  • Antique furniture
  • Taxidermy
  • Plasma TV’s , High End Electronics
  • Baby Grand Pianos .

Types of Crates
The type of wooden crate built by AE Worldwide is determined by the size, weight, value, and destination of the contents.

Slat Crate: This is used for most domestic household goods. The item is generally wrapped in dolphin foam, secured within the custom-sized, cardboard-lined crate and sealed with slats of kiln-dried pine or spruce.

Solid: A solid crate is typically used to add additional protection to high-value items or when the weight of an item requires additional structural support. In some cases we also build a pallet base to a solid crate to facilitate easy handling by a fork lift. A solid crate is normally constructed from ½” plywood.

International Crate: Slat or Solid crating utilizing certified heat-treated lumber that meets ISPM-15 standards for overseas shipments. These crates not only meet all foreign import regulations but they also offer superior protection for the delicate or valuable items being transported either by air or ocean.

Destination Uncrating
At destination, our technicians inspect the condition of the crate. We then uncrate the item, remove any protective materials, and inspect for condition. The uncrated item is placed in an agreed upon location. The empty crate and associated materials are removed and disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

There are many factors that influence the size and pricing of an item to be crated. The weight, size, and value of an item, as well as additional spacing to allow for wrapping and bracing an item all need to be considered when estimating a crate cost. If you have any doubts or concerns about pricing please contact us. AE Worldwide is always happy to provide an estimate of the cost of crating an item.
